Can dogs eat almonds?
Why
Sweet almonds sold for eating are not poisonous, but dogs do not digest them well and they commonly cause gastrointestinal upset. Their high fat content raises the risk of pancreatitis, and whole nuts can lodge in the esophagus, windpipe, or intestines. Salted or flavored almonds add salt-toxicity risk.
How much is safe
Best avoided; if a dog eats a few plain sweet almonds it is unlikely to be poisoned, but do not feed them intentionally.
Warning signs to watch for
Vomiting, diarrhea, gas, and abdominal discomfort; watch for signs of choking or blockage.
